SUSAN CALMAN RETURNS TO STV WITH THE LIE
The Lie, hosted by Scottish comedian Susan Calman, returns for a second series on STV from Thursday 4th June at 2030.
The new six part series, made by STV Productions, is a quiz show with a difference. The Lie has no questions – instead each team of two contestants must spot the one lie from a set of otherwise true statements.
Host Susan Calman said: “I'm delighted that The Lie is back on STV. It was great fun to be part of, and the contestants this year are wonderful. It’s fun, challenging and the tension is ramped up in every way. I hope everyone enjoys the show as much as I enjoyed making it!"
Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said: “The second series of The Lie is a welcome addition to our summer schedule. The first series was a hit with viewers as audiences tuned in to play along with the studio contestants and try to spot the lie. We are sure viewers will be tuning in to the second series to see if any of the contestants reach the £10,000 jackpot.”
The first series of The Lie reached almost one million viewers with one in five Scots tuning in across the series.
Starting with a prize pot of £100 the players work their way up the game board, with each nail-biting round introducing a new series of statements in categories ranging from pop stars and children’s books to football and current affairs. There is only one lie in each round, but as the team get closer to the £10,000 jackpot, the number of true statements – and the number of pitfalls – increases.
The team has just one chance to bank their money during the game. Until they bank, every penny in their prize pot is at risk – but bank too early and players risk missing out on the big money.
If the contestants wrongly identify a truth as a lie, the game is over and everything they haven’t banked is lost. Or, choosing to play it safe, the team can walk away with their prize pot at the end of a round.
A stand-up comedian, writer and actress, Susan Calman has acted in How Not to Live your Life, Rab C Nesbitt, Dead Boss and Fresh Meat. She’s also appeared on Have I Got News for You, QI, 8 out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie to You, as well as well as a host of Radio 4 shows like the News Quiz, ISIHAC, Just a Minute and the Now Show.
Susan’s solo radio show, Susan Calman is Convicted, won the Writers’ Guild award for best Radio Comedy in 2014 and it also won the comedy.co.uk award for best Radio Entertainment Show two years running. Her debut radio sitcom will be on air in August starring Susan, Ashley Jensen and Nick Helm.
Susan has just finished a tour of her show “Lady Like” which has travelled the length and breadth of the country over seventeen months. During the Glasgow Comedy Festival the full two hour performance was filmed for her first DVD which will be released in the summer.Back…
